Made some absolutely scrumptious cookies for a co-worker’s birthday yesterday:

Key lime meltaways. I upped the lime juice by a tablespoon and then threw in a little more powdered sugar before adding the flour mix. Wonderful flavor and powdered sugar goodness! 🙂

I felt like doing some easy baking last night, so I looked for something simple I could make with ingredients I already had on hand. I found a recipe for lemon-butter bars in an old cookbook.

I wasn’t thrilled with the end result: warm and sweet, but not very lemony at all. But don’t they look cute? (:

Why the heck did I think making scones was some sort of lengthy, difficult process? Who filled my head with such lies?

I’m actually not a huge scone person, but the simplicity of this recipe (dreamy cream scones; I used dried cranberries) pulled me in. They’re quite tasty, as far as scones go, and should be just delightful warmed up with a cup of coffee in the morning. Happy Tuesday! (:

Today was my co-worker Etienne’s birthday, so I whipped up some cupcakes for work.

I’m still on my chocolate/peanut butter kick, so I went for chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter icing. This also gave me the perfect opportunity to try out my nifty new measuring spoons, which arrived as a surprise gift in the mail from Vikram last week. You can adjust the measurement size instead of having to dirty several spoons. I love them!

I went with my go-to chocolate sheet cake recipe (I got 22 cupcakes out of it) and this peanut butter icing recipe from Ina Garten. Apparently it’s Kathleen’s peanut butter icing, whoever that is.

Very tasty. I may or may not have had one for breakfast. (:

How I started my year at work, design-wise: by laying out our transportation writer’s annual construction update (Monday’s B1 centerpiece). I knew it would take me a bit of time, so I did all the design Saturday night and just had to tweak/insert the maps on deadline. Very pleased that it magically came together and fit on the page on my first try. (:
